Dear Friends,

A primary goal of the pro-life movement is to pass legislation that promotes life and educates the public on the truth about abortion. Such legislation saves lives and exposes the lies promoted by our opponents.

One of the biggest lies is that abortion is a “routine” medical procedure that is “good” for women. When medical procedures are performed in medical clinics, the reputable doctors have admitting privileges at a near-by hospital, in case there is a medical emergency. The doctor can then admit the patient and continue to provide medical care at the hospital. If the doctor does not have such arrangements, any patient who suffers an emergency will just be dumped into the emergency room of a hospital.

Most Americans just assume that abortion clinics have such arrangements with the local hospital. In fact, they do not; and, to remedy this, a number of states have passed laws requiring abortionists to have admitting privileges at a near-by hospital. Pro-abortion advocates have challenged these laws in court, thus signaling their understanding that abortionists are not really practicing ordinary medicine. Rather, they are hired killers, who kill the baby and then abandon the mothers to the real medical providers, if there are any complications.

Louisiana and Texas have passed such laws, but they have been challenged in court. In Louisiana, at two of the five abortion clinics, the doctors have been unable to get admitting privileges at the local hospitals, and, in Texas, multiple abortion clinics have been forced to close because the doctors couldn’t get admitting privileges. In other words, these so-called “doctors,” who are unable to obtain hospital privileges, want to continue providing substandard care—knowing they are unable to care for women, who suffer from medical emergencies at their hands. In Texas, at least 210 women are hospitalized annually following abortions.

It is a lie that abortion is for women’s “medical care.” Abortion is about killing the unborn child and leaving true health care to someone else.

We at West Virginians for Life deeply appreciate your commitment to the pro-life cause and your support of our work for life here in West Virginia.

Sincerely,

Wanda Franz, Ph.D., President
