Twelfth Annual Golf FORE Life
By Alicia Martin, WVFL Program Director
Twenty-seven teams participated in West Virginians for Life’s 12th Annual Golf FORE Life Tournament. It was held on Saturday, July 13th, at the Preston Country Club in Kingwood – an extremely hot day, but rainless.
Winners of the challenges were Dave Sanders (Closest to the Pin), Chris Alasky (Longest Putt) and Rocky Starkey (Longest Drive). For their skills, Sanders won a discounted round of golf for four at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke; Alasky won a round of golf for four at Alpine Lake Resort; and the Starkey award was a round of golf for four at the Preston Country Club. The winner of the Putting Contest prior to the scheduled tee time was Chris Alasky, who gladly accepted his TopGolf $100 gift card.
Each person on the first-place team, fielded by Trinity Assembly of God, won a $100 Visa gift card. The foursome’s 55 was 17 under par. Team members included Steve and Scott Mohr, Verlin Porter, and Chris Alasky.
The second-place UniFirst team scored a 57, and each person on the team won $75 worth of merchandise from the Preston Country Club Pro Shop. Teammates were John Cale, Chris Brady, Mark Westfall, and Rocky Starkey.
Pound Town City Council took third-place. Their prize was $50 worth of merchandise each from the Preston Country Club Pro Shop. Players included Jim Hall, Brandon Tucker, Anthony Fata, and JT Lewis.
The winner of the 50/50 drawing was Chris Alasky.
The tournament raised approximately $12,000 for the West Virginians for Life Educational Trust Fund, a non-profit charity. The organization wishes to thank Platinum Sponsors Trinity Assembly of God and Wassick Novelty Company LLC, and Gold Sponsor Doug and Dana Leech. Thank you to Harry Green Chevy Nissan in Bridgeport for donating the car, and other prizes, for the hole-in-one challenge – which again eluded everyone. Thanks to many other sponsors and volunteers, the tournament was a success.
Golfers are invited to play in the 13th Annual Golf FORE Life at this same course on July 12th next year.
